Monday, Dec. 12          Read Psalm 89:1-8

from Steven Jumper, First Christian Church, Cameron, WV:

This psalm was written to give us a picture of the glorious reign of David. God had given David a promise to make him the greatest king on earth and to keep his descendants on the throne forever. After the destruction of Jerusalem, there was no longer a need for kings to reign there.  Therefore, these verses must be looking forward to the future reign of Jesus Christ who was a descendant of David.  Jesus’ reign will fulfill the promise God gave to David, because He will rule over the world forever.  As we prepare ourselves this Advent for the coming of the Lord, we can be assured that the promise that God made to David is the same for everyone. If we accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior, then we can look forward to His everlasting kingdom for there is no one as mighty and faithful as the Lord.

Gracious Lord, thank you for your promise and for your faithfulness to everyone. Amen.
