Read Titus 3:4-7

But when the goodness and loving kindness of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of any works of righteousness that we had done, but according to his mercy, through the water of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit. This Spirit he poured out on us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that, having been justified by his grace, we might become heirs according to the hope of eternal life.

How long will it take you to share with others what you received for Christmas? The weeks leading up to Christmas Day were filled with countless hours of finding the perfect gift. Our reading tells us we need not ask or search any longer. There is nothing we can do to obtain this perfect gift.

When we are washed in the waters of baptism we receive the gift of the Holy Spirit and the hope of eternal life. This gift of God’s grace, in the human form of Jesus Christ, gave us what our righteous deeds did not earn for us and what we did not deserve. As we celebrate Christ’s birth in these days of Christmastide, follow his life, grieve his death, and stand in awe of the resurrection, we should be overwhelmed with opportunities to confess that, “I believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the Living God and I accept Him as my Lord and Savior.” This is the gift we should share with others, not only at Christmas but always. How long will it take you to share God’s Christmas gift with others?

Gift-giving God,

we give you our joy-filled thanks

for the perfect gift you have given us.

Remind us always of the need to share it with everyone! Amen.
