As you have been blessed by the gift of God in the coming of Christ at Advent, please consider how your giving for the Christmas Offering to support Regional Ministry may bless the whole Church and world.  You may give through your local Disciples congregation, or at www.wvdisciples.org/support.  Congregations of the WV Region’s congregations whose members give online will still receive credit for the gift for Yearbook outreach reporting.

Saturday: Dec. 6                   Read Psalm 85:1-2, 8-13

LORD, you were favorable to your land;

you restored the fortunes of Jacob.

You forgave the iniquity of your people;

you pardoned all their sin. Selah

Let me hear what God the LORD will speak,

for he will speak peace to his people, to his faithful,

to those who turn to him in their hearts.

Surely his salvation is at hand for those who fear him,

that his glory may dwell in our land.

Steadfast love and faithfulness will meet;

righteousness and peace will kiss each other.

Faithfulness will spring up from the ground,

and righteousness will look down from the sky.

The LORD will give what is good,

and our land will yield its increase.

Righteousness will go before him,

and will make a path for his steps.

from Rev. Rodney Hubbs

First Christian Church, McMechen

When I read verses 1-2 it reminded me of what God does for everyone who is willing to give their lives to Christ.  He will forgive all our sins.  He will love us no matter what we have or who we are. Verses 8-13 tell us that our lives will be so much easier and simpler if we will obey our Lord and Savior.  Simple is the real key word.  How much simpler can you get than being born in a stable and laid in a manger?  Christ wasn’t born in a Marriott with a silver spoon in his mouth.  He gives His love to everyone. He also will give judgment to those who don’t obey and follow Him.

The righteousness spoken of here brings to mind what we as Christians should be doing, making a path for others to follow toward God.

May God’s love shine down on us throughout the year.

May we be constantly reminded that we are being observed daily by someone.

May our Christian Love be as bright as the ‘Shining Star.’  Amen
