Read Genesis 12.1-4a

Now the LORD said to Abram, “Go from your country and your kindred and your father’s house to the land that I will show you.  I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you, and make your name great, so that you will be a blessing.  I will bless those who bless you, and the one who curses you I will curse; and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.”  So Abram went, as the LORD had told him; and Lot went with him.

From Rev. William Pollack, First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), Princeton

When was the last time God called to you with a real test of faith? How did you respond? Are you still considering the consequences of a response? It is difficult to give up our comfort and “look to a land that will be revealed in time.”  This Lenten season begs our attention as we consider the faithful response of Abram in our text…and the ultimate faith response of Jesus which led Him to the cross. During Lent let us reconsider the call of God upon our life. Are you a clergy or lay person in His Church? Are you still considering the crucial invitation to receive His saving love? No matter where we are in our faith response, let us be trusting as Abram was when he responded by going and believing that God would provide whatever the need. He has provided for us in the same way.

Heavenly Father, thank you for Your promise to lead and provide.

May we be open to Your call for a faithful response

and the blessing that will be. In Jesus’ name we pray.
