Mar. 19 – Tuesday                                        Read Ephesians 3:14-19

For this reason I bow my knees before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth takes its name. I pray that, according to the riches of his glory, he may grant that you may be strengthened in your inner being with power through his Spirit, and that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith, as you are being rooted and grounded in love. I pray that you may have the power to comprehend, with all the saints, what is the breadth and length and height and depth,  and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, so that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.

To me, the season of Lent has always been depressing.  Even though I know full well the whole story and its glorious ending on Easter Sunday, I would really like to skip the parts that are so painful and depressing as once again we have to walk that lonesome valley with our Lord and watch as His friends betray Him.

But then comes this passage with Paul praying that his readers “…be filled with all the fullness of God.”  Totally boggles my mind in its beauty and scope!  And it also helps me to reconcile the need for the not so pleasant parts of the story.  It’s the positive affirmation of God’s love in the midst of all that is life, knowing full well that life is often painful and depressing. But as we are strengthened in our being and rooted and grounded in God’s love, we can meet it all with the knowledge of the Spirit’s constant presence with us in all that we do.

God of love, may we be filled anew with your love

and be blessed with the power to comprehend the magnitude of it all.
