Ps. 85:8-13

Let me hear what God the LORD will speak,

            for he will speak peace to his people,

                        to his faithful,

                         to those who turn to him in their hearts.

Surely his salvation is at hand for those who fear him,

            that his glory may dwell in our land.

Steadfast love and faithfulness will meet;

            righteousness and peace will kiss each other.

Faithfulness will spring up from the ground,

            and righteousness will look down from the sky.

The LORD will give what is good,

             and our land will yield its increase.

Righteousness will go before him,

            and will make a path for his steps.

            from Rev. X. Rae Browning, First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), Cumberland, MD

            I really wasn’t looking forward to planting a large garden this year. But since my husband wanted to try out the new tractor he purchased, and had already tilled more ground than planned, I conceded. And, in doing so, God was so good that the harvest was bountiful. Our garden yielded so much that we were able to share with neighbors and friends.

            God is so good to us all the time. But, in sharing our bountiful harvest with others we, ourselves, were found to be blessed over and over again. This is how God wants us to live our lives, serving Him and our neighbor. Love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your mind and all you soul…and love your neighbor as yourself. I thank God that following Christ prepares the way to a promised future filled with peace.  God’s glory will dwell in our land, and this year’s harvest is proving to be very good.

May we rejoice in the fullness of your grace, O God,

 even as we rejoice in your creation’s bounty.
